Wednesday 1st April 2020

Good Morning Fantastic Foxes, it’s the start of a new month today, so don’t forget if you’re writing the little date on your work in your red book you need to use a 4 for April, just like we do on the board in class. We have received some more super photos of some of you completing your tasks and working very hard at home. It fills mine and Mrs Hallam’s buckets to see them, so keep sending them in!

Phonics / GPS

One of the things that we have been working on and practising a lot over the last few weeks is knowing what different types of words are and what they are used for. Today we are going to think about verbs, I’m sure that you can all tell your grown-ups that they are sometimes called ‘doing’ words because they describe things that you can do, like running, drawing, writing and smiling. Can you find all of the verbs in this list of words and write them in your red books. If you can do that choose one to write a sentence about using the past tense.

Collective Worship

Our collective worship value for today is ASPIRE. Talk about what aspire means and what you are going to aspire to do today, I am going to aspire to give everyone that I speak to a compliment to fill their buckets. Jesus aspired to share God’s love, how can you do that in your house today?

Mathematics

Description automatically generatedCan you use what you know about 2D shapes and their properties to create a picture using ONLY 2D shapes? You can draw these into your book, cut them out of coloured paper or old magazines. Can you think of a picture that fits our Animal Magic topic? I might try and create a giraffe, I think I’ll need lots of rectangles for this one!

Playtime

Keep your fingers crossed that we don’t get any April showers today and you can go outside and enjoy your favourite games, we’ve seen some amazing trampolining already this week!

I have a challenge for your English task today Foxes, can you remember what a homophone is and tell your grown-ups? It has been a little while since we first started learning about these. To remind you what they are watch one of these video clips on BBC Bitesize. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqhpk2p

Then see if you can create a poster with some homophones that you can think of. How many can you think of?

Lunchtime

When you have enjoyed a tasty lunch see if you can set up some of the mini Olympics activities, is there someone that you could compete against in your house? See if you can complete all of the activities by the end of the week, you could even make some medals to award to your family! (ideas page with the newsletters)

Topic

Now that we have started to see some signs of spring outside you should be able to find some living creatures in your gardens. Go on a hunt to see what sort of minibeasts you can find, can you name them all and describe what they look like? When you have found some either draw and label a picture of one or see if you can design a home for them to live in. If you have time you could start making a bug home for your chosen bugs there are lots of examples online to give you some ideas.

Story time

Find a story to listen to or watch online, David Walliams is reading some of his every day if you like his books, or there lots on www.booktrust.org.uk

Message for today

Thank you very much if you have already sent some photos of you and your children working hard at home, it really does make our day when we see the lovely things that you are doing. Love from Miss Jones and Mrs Hallam.
