Thursday 14th May 2020

Hello Marvellous Moles!  How are you getting on this week? Can you believe it’s Thursday already? It feels like time is going by really, quickly!

Here are todays’ learning activities, remember we understand if you don’t get chance to do them all, just choose the ones which suit you best and have some fun taking part in them.

Marvellous Moles Home Learning Tasks:

Today we are going to play the Symbol Search game again – remind your grown-up how we play it.

Draw a grid and write in different letters of the alphabet to the ones you have covered during the previous weeks. You could also add the sounds sh, ll, ss, and ff, the children know that they are two letters, but they only make one sound. So, if you were reading the word s-t-a-ff you would only need to say the ‘ff’ once, and for ship you would say sh-i-p.  Ask your child to find a sound, write it in the air using their hands then trace over the top on the grid as they say the sound. How many did you know?

As an extension activity you could think of some words which begin or end with the sound sh, how many can you think of?

Collective Worship

Our Collective Worship value for today is LEARN.

In our story the shepherd would not stop looking for his sheep until he had found it safe and well. How do you think that he might have felt when he realised that one of his sheep was missing? Have you ever lost anything that is special or important to you? How did it make you feel? When you found it again how did your feelings change?

At the end of our collective worships at school we would usually say a prayer together.

See if you can sing our prayer song before saying this short prayer at home.

Thank you for the world so sweet

Thank you for the food we eat

Thank you for the birds that sing

Thank you God for everything

(The children should recognise this prayer as it is one we say in school)

PSED - Personal, Social, Emotional Development

Whilst reading our story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears this week, we have thought about how Goldilocks went into the Bears’ house without being invited.

Not only was that bad manners, it was also a dangerous thing for her to do, because she didn’t know who was in the house.  I’ll bet her grown-ups didn’t know where she was either!

Have a talk with your grown-ups about how to make sure you stay safe, who it okay to talk to and where it is okay for you to go.

PD - Physical Development

Miss Thurston has got a Maths Scavenger Hunt for you to do today!

Start with a simple question i.e. 3 + 3. (You could roll a dice to generate the numbers for your sums if you like) The answer is 6 – try and find 6 matching objects (socks, spoons, teddies or go outside and use leaves, sticks etc)

See how quickly you can find all the items!

CL - Communication and Language

Do you remember the ‘Who am I?’ game we played a little while ago?

We gave you clues about farm animals and you had to work out which animal we were talking about.  Today We’d like you to play this game with the characters from the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Challenge your grown-up to work out which character you are describing. For example – This character is the smallest.  He has brown fur.  He lives with his mummy and daddy in a cottage in the forest.  He didn’t get to eat his porridge.

Once your grown-up has worked out who you are talking about, you could swap over, so that they give the clues and you work out which character they are talking about.

L - Literacy

Today in literacy we would like you to think about the different parts of the story.

What happens at the beginning?

What happens in the middle?

What happens at the end?

You could draw a picture for each section and then tell your grown-up what is happening, or you could write a sentence or two for each part.

M - Mathematical Development

For maths today we are going to think about size.  What words can you think of that describe the size of things?  Here are a few to start you off… big, little, enormous…how many more can you think of? You could write these in your book.

Next, we’d like you to collect up some toys or teddies, then can you put them into order according to their size? From largest to smallest.  We’d love to see some photos of this!

After you’ve enjoyed lunch today, why don’t you make a delicious pudding together?  What are your favourite flavours?  At the weekend I made some cookies and we crumbled them up with ice cream and chocolate sauce – it was delicious!

EAD- Expressive Arts and Design.
