Home Learning Tasks for The Wonderful Wolves
Good Morning, everyone, I hope you had a nice weekend and that you enjoyed having some nicer weather back. The home learning this week is a little different, as we are not focusing on Katie Morag. This Friday, 8th May, is the 75th Anniversary of VE day and that is what we are focusing our learning on this week.
Phonics / GPS
In phonics this week we are going to be looking at the sound / ee /. We have already looked at the spellings ‘e, ee, ea and y’ but the spellings “ey, ie and i.” This can ey like donkey, ie like grief or i like ski.
In your blue books can you make three lists of words like we do in our phonics lessons at school one list for each new spelling of /ee/.
Our Collective Worship value for today is SERVE.
This week we are going to think about VE Day. This Friday it is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day stands for Victory in Europe. This is a celebration of when the Allies formally accepted Germany’s surrender, meaning they defeated Germany in the Second World War. There is a PowerPoint on the class pages of the school website entitled ‘VE Day Collective Worship PowerPoint’. Look through the PowerPoint to gain a better understanding of VE Day. Can you then use your books to write down a list of different people who served us during the war?
Today for English I would like you to complete the VE day comprehension that is in the files section of the class page of the school website. This gives a nice overview of what VE day is and will help you understand why we are learning about VE day this week. Write the answers into your blue books.
Children often had to make their own entertainment during the war and the period that followed VE day. One way they did this was by playing cards. Can you play a card game such a snap?
The video for today can be found at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ . Today the video can be found in Summer Term Week 1 and is called “Lesson 3 - Make equal groups (sharing)” Enjoy watching the video, if at any point you do not understand feel free to watch the video again or pause it to ask your grown-ups for help. Then use your blue book to record the answers to the questions in the activity section.
Choose an activity from the Monday column of the Home Activity PE Challenges file on the class page of the school website.
For PE this week Mrs Thurston has created a PE boot camp, the file is on the class page of the school website. This includes some of the exercise’s soldiers may have undertaken during their training during WWII. Can you complete all of the activities? Were they what you were expecting?
If you are looking for extra PE ideas during the week https://pe-coordinator.co.uk/home-fitness/ has some good ideas. The fun fitness section has some really good ideas.
This week for PHSE we are continuing to think about WWII and VE day. Can you use some time and find out if anyone you know fought during the war? You might need to ring your grandparents to ask them if they know. If anyone you know did fight in the war, can you find out how they felt and how it affected their family left at home? Even if no one in your family did fight during WWII you can still think of the answers to these questions, you could even look online for some real accounts from soldiers.
Our story today is all about a little Hamster and all the trouble he gets up to on a treasure hunt. Click on the picture for the link.
