Home Learning Tasks for The Wonderful Wolves
Good Morning, everyone, I hope you are all staying well and active at home. It is so nice to have the warmer weather back to enjoy again. Today as you go about your home learning I want you to remember the little message below.
Phonics / GPS
In phonics this week we have been looking at the /oo/ sound.
How many different /oo/ words can you find in 2 minutes (remember this can be any of the new spellings ‘u’, ‘ui’, ‘ou’ and ‘ough’ or the old spellings ‘oo’, ‘ew’ ‘ue’, ‘u-e’ and ‘o’) – can you explain what your chosen words mean?
Our collective worship value for today is ASPIRE.
In our story ‘Jonah and the Whale’ the people of Nineveh aspired to live better lives after Jonah spoke to them of God’s teachings and the importance of being kind and good.
Talk to your grown-up about what you aspire to be better at? Grown-ups what do you aspire to be better at? You may need to start this conversation off, as it can be a bit tricky for our little ones to think this way, to begin with!
We are continuing to look at letters today. We know Katie Morag enjoys writing letters and we know that letters have to be structured in a slightly different way to text like stories. When we are writing a letter to someone we know, as Katie does to Grandma Mainland, then we often ask questions. Questions normally start with a question word. Can you use some of the question words below to write some questions that might be suitable for putting in a letter? E.g. How are you? You do not need to put these into a letter just write them in sentences. Remember questions have to end in a question mark.
Choose an activity from the home activity PE challenges for this week and complete it to help you keep active at home.
The video for today can be found at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ located in week 4 under “Lesson 2 - Subtract within 20 )”. Today the worksheet containing questions is in the files section of the class page of the school website, please do not try and get this from White Rose direct as you will need a subscription. As a school, we have a subscription that allows us to post the worksheets to the blogs. Work through the video as normal. If at any point you do not understand feel free to watch the video again or pause it to ask your grown-ups for help. Then use your blue book to record the answers to the questions in the activity section.
Can you choose some of your favourite music and create your own dance routine? Once you have created the dance routine can you teach this to someone else in your house before performing it to an audience of soft toys?
For science the first thing I would like you to do is to update your plant diary – I’m sure your plant has started to grow now. How big is it now? Is it still in a pot inside or have you been able to plant it outside now?
The second thing we are doing for science today is looking at trees. Use the Terrific Trees PowerPoint that is in the files section of the class page of the school website. I would like you to look through and learn about deciduous and evergreen before going on a tree hunt for your daily exercise using the tree hunt file.
Today for your singing you could use the BBC radio website to sing some of your favourite nursery rhymes with people at home. Are there any old nursery rhymes that the grown-ups at home remember singing when they were children? If so can you sing some of these?
