Good morning everyone I hope you are all keeping well. I have received so much wonderful work from you all this week. I am so proud of all the work you are doing at home, keep up the hard work. The home learning for today is below.

Phonics / GPS

In phonics this week we have looked at the /oe/ sound. The new spellings we have looked at are “ough, or ou

Can you sort these /oe/ words into real and alien words? I have used words with the old and new spellings of /oe/

Collective Worship

Our Collective Worship value for today is LEARN.

In our story, the shepherd would not stop looking for his sheep until he had found it safe and well. How do you think that he might have felt when he realised that one of his sheep was missing? Have you ever lost anything that is special or important to you? How did it make you feel? When you found it again how did your feelings change?

At the end of our collective worships at school we would usually say a prayer together.

See if you can sing our prayer song before saying this short prayer at home.

Thank you for the world so sweet

Thank you for the food we eat

Thank you for the birds that sing

Thank you God for everything

Amen

(The children should recognise this prayer as it is one we say in school)

English

Yesterday you wrote letters to your Grandmothers, a bit like we think Katie Morag does to Granma Mainland. Today I think it would be nice to do something a little different and find out what life was like for your Grandmothers when they grew up. If it is possible I would like you to ring them, this could be a normal phone call or you might be able to FaceTime or Skype them. Can you find the answers to these three questions and write them in your blue books?

  1.  What kind of games did they play when they were growing up – are they the same kind of games you play now?
  2. What did they do to help their parents around the house when they were growing up – do you do any of these things?
  3. What was their first job?

Playtime

Today for playtime why don’t you see if you can play a board game or card game with someone at home.

Mathematics

The video for today can be found at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ located in Summer Term Week 3 under “Lesson 2 - Fact families - linking addition and subtraction (1)”. Enjoy watching the video, if at any point you do not understand feel free to watch the video again or pause it to ask your grown-ups for help. Then use your blue book to record the answers to the questions in the activity section.

Lunchtime

For lunchtime today think about your favourite lunchtime activity. This might be playing sports with Mrs Thurston, using the sports equipment or playing with the toys that have been put out. Can you choose your favourite and do something similar at home this lunchtime?

Geography

We know Katie Morag lives on the fictional island of Struay and that the TV show is filmed on real Scottish islands. So today we are going to look at the Orkney Islands, which are another set of Scottish Islands. Watch the clip https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zxfr87h before using a map, such a Google maps to locate the Orkney islands. Can you then discuss the questions in the classroom ideas section – you can write the answers down if you wish but discussing the answers with a grown-up is fine.

Storytime

Today I have chosen you a funny story to give you all a giggle! I miss hearing you all giggle at storytime (click on the book for the link).
