Home Learning Tasks for The Wonderful Wolves
Good Morning, everyone, it was lovely to ring and speak to so many of you yesterday and hear about all the learning you have been doing. Lots of you asked for a good place to go for extra reading materials. Oxford Owl is offering lots of free e-books during lockdown these link very well the children’s current reading abilities https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/books/free-ebooks/ - let us know which books you decide to read.
Phonics / GPS
For phonics yesterday, we began looking at the /oy/ sound.
Can you read these different /oy/ words? Once you have read the /oy/ words can you choose your favourites and write them into some silly sentences in your blue book?
Our collective worship value for today is SERVE.
Thinking about the story of Daniel in the Lions’ Den (you can watch it again if you like) - talk about how Daniel served God, but ended up in the Lions’ Den.
Sometimes it can be difficult to serve, but you should always do your best.
Why don’t you draw a picture of Daniel in the Lions’ Den?
Yesterday we looked at the story of “Katie Morag Delivers the Mail.” Can you orally retell this story to someone who is at home? Once you have retold the story can you think of the four most important parts and turn the story into a comic strip?
For playtime today why don’t you go outside and get some fresh air, while you are there can you find ten different things that are yellow?
The video for today can be found at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ located in week 1 under “Lesson 2 - Measure mass”. Enjoy watching the video, if at any point you do not understand feel free to watch the video again or pause it to ask your grown-ups for help. Then use your blue book to record the answers to the questions in the activity section.
Today why don’t you try and see if you can complete your favourite jigsaw puzzle or spend a little bit of time colouring in a picture from your favourite colouring book.
D&T (Design and Technology)
Rather than a one-off lesson, we would like your D&T work to be a mini-project. We would like you to spend the next few weeks creating your very own lighthouse. I have included some examples below. Feel free to use any materials you have around the house and be as creative as you can. We would love to see pictures throughout your project which you can send to us via the class email. For those of you who need a little inspiration, I have put some instructions onto the files section of the class page of the school website.
Listen to this song. Do you recognise it? If so can you remember where you have heard it before? (Click here for the song)
The song is actually a very famous tune written and composed by John A. Glover-Kind in 1907 it is called “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside”. Play the song again and think about these questions can you discuss them with an adult at home?
- How would they describe the tempo (speed/pace)?
- How many instruments can be heard playing?
- Does the music remind them of anything or make them imagine something in their minds?
