Welcome to Langley Mill Church of England Infant School and Nursery. My name is Miss K. Scrivens and I am very proud to be Headteacher of this wonderful school. I have been Headteacher here since September 2007.
The school was built in 1897 when it was first a Girls’ School. It then became a Junior School before becoming the Infant and Nursery school that it is today. It is in the heart of Langley Mill, a former coal mining area.
After attending here, most of our children transfer to Langley Mill Academy for their junior schooling, then move on to Aldercar High School for their secondary education.
The facilities here are excellent. Our building is full of character and charm and we have a purpose built nursery for our three and four year olds. Inside the main building we have five bright and airy classrooms, an inviting, well-stocked library, a well-equipped hall, several offices and spaces for small group and individual work. The building is very well maintained and has a wonderful, positive atmosphere.
There is a disabled parking space to the front of the building and wheelchair access is possible via a ramp to the main entrance or through the playground veranda doors.
The outdoor grounds of the school are magnificent. We have a large, developed field area and hard surfaced playground, separate outdoor learning areas for our early years’ pupils plus a wildlife area with bird watching huts, animal homes, a storytelling space and a pond area as well as outside classrooms, role play areas and adventure trails. What more could we want!
Currently we have a fifty-two place nursery, one pure reception class, two pure year one classes, and one pure year two class. We also have a full time Pastoral Manager, a part time, non-contact Special Educational Needs/Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) and specialist Reading Champions alongside our teachers and their support assistants.
Children of all backgrounds and abilities make excellent progress at our school and we pride ourselves on focusing on spiritual, moral, social, cultural and behavioural development alongside academic progress.
Out of school hours we love to practise and develop our skills and knowledge so we offer lots of extra-curricular opportunities, including before school, lunchtime and after school provision.
We offer excellent support to children and families before they start at our nursery or school, when they move here and when they move on to the juniors.
The whole school team are excellent. They are highly experienced, professional and committed to providing the very best learning opportunities for our children. At our school we learn together, have fun together and enjoy a broad, balanced and creative curriculum.
Everything we do is summarised in our logo: ‘Always our best for God, each other and ourselves’.
Enjoy our website and please take time to come and visit us.
With best wishes,
Miss K. Scrivens (Headteacher)
